Privacy policy
This page describes what happens when you visit my portfolio site, what Cloudflare processes as the host, and the one functional feature that reads approximate location for the homepage weather strip.
Overview
This privacy policy explains how Pavlo Savchuk ("I", "me") handles information when you visit pavlosavchuk.com (the "site"). The site is a personal portfolio. It is not a product with user accounts, checkout, or a logged-in area.
I do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Hotjar, or similar marketing or behavioural analytics tools. I do not sell personal data.
Who is responsible
The data controller for this site is Pavlo Savchuk. You can contact me at pavlo.o.savchuk@gmail.com.
Hosting and Cloudflare
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and delivered through Cloudflare's network. Cloudflare processes technical data needed to serve the site, protect it from abuse, and operate its infrastructure. This typically includes your IP address, browser type, request URL, timestamps, and similar server and security logs.
Cloudflare may also set cookies or use local storage where required for security features such as bot management or challenge pages. I do not enable optional Cloudflare Web Analytics or other add-on analytics products on this site.
Cloudflare's own privacy documentation applies to how they handle data as a processor and infrastructure provider: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
Location and weather on the homepage
The homepage shows your approximate city, local time, and current weather. This is a deliberate feature, not background tracking.
When Cloudflare visitor location headers are available, the site reads city and country from those headers at the edge. No extra lookup is needed in that case.
When those headers are not available, the server may call a third-party IP geolocation service (ipwho.is, with ipapi.co as a fallback) using your IP address to estimate city and country. That third party therefore sees your IP for the lookup.
Weather is fetched from Open-Meteo using approximate coordinates derived from the location step above. Open-Meteo receives coordinates, not your IP address directly from my application code.
Location and weather are resolved per visit on the server. I do not build a visitor profile, store your IP in my own database, or use this data for advertising.
When you contact me
If you email me or connect via LinkedIn, I receive the information you choose to send (for example your name, email address, and message content). I use that only to respond and, where relevant, to discuss work opportunities.
Cookies and local storage
The site does not set first-party cookies for analytics or advertising. Your browser may still receive strictly necessary cookies or similar technologies from Cloudflare when they are required to deliver or protect the site.
The day/night hero preference is handled in the browser session and is not used to track you across visits.
How long data is kept
I do not maintain a mailing list or visitor database for this site. Email correspondence is kept only as long as needed for the conversation and any follow-up work discussion.
Retention of server and security logs is governed by Cloudflare's platform policies and configuration.
Your rights
If you are in the UK, the EEA, or another jurisdiction with data protection laws, you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights in relation to data I control, email pavlo.o.savchuk@gmail.com. I will respond within a reasonable time.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy when the site or hosting setup changes. The "Last updated" date at the bottom of the page shows when it was last revised.
